Remove/install

Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmitter range (min. 2 m).

Lift vehicle with lifting platform.

Unclip electrical wiring harness from temperature sensor upstream of the soot particulate filter (5) at the heat shield (1).


Do not crush or kink or subject lines to tension.
This would lead to damage to the lines and can impair their function.

Remove temperature sensor upstream of the soot particulate filter (5) from the exhaust system fasten to vehicle free of tension.

Note on calculation of tightening torque when using insertion or socket tools with various effective lengths

 Installation: Coat thread of the temperature sensor upstream of the soot particulate filter (5) with hot lubricating paste.

Remove screws (2) from flange.

 Installation: Install new seal on flange.
Ensure that seal is correctly seated.

Unscrew nuts (3).

 Nut, center exhaust system holder to front axle carrier

Carefully lift exhaust system until the heat shield (1) can be removed.



Remove heat shield (1).

Unclip electrical wiring harness of the temperature sensor control unit upstream of the soot particulate filter (4) from the bracket of the temperature sensor control unit upstream of the soot particulate filter (4).

Release and disconnect electrical connector on the engine side from the temperature sensor control unit upstream of the soot particulate filter (4).

Unclip temperature sensor control unit upstream of the soot particulate filter (4) of the temperature sensor upstream of the soot particulate filter (5) from the bracket on the front axle carrier and remove with the temperature sensor upstream of the soot particulate filter (5).

 Installation: Clean sealing surface on flange.

Install in the reverse order.

Connect vehicle diagnosis system, read out fault memory, delete if necessary.



Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Perform engine test run; check engine for proper operation and check exhaust system for leak tightness.
