 Warning

Risk of burn injuries, suffocation and poisoning when working on the exhaust system and the components connected to it. Risk of suffocation and risk of poisoning caused by inhalation of gaseous and solid components of the exhaust. Risk of poisoning caused by skin contact with solid components of the exhaust.

Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. Use the extraction system. Move people out of the hazard area.

Remove/install

Remove center and rear sections of lower engine compartment lining.

 Installation: Only install center and rear lower rear engine compartment paneling again after leak test.

Remove left and right underfloor paneling.

Remove rear reinforcement.

 Bolt, rear reinforcement to frame floor assembly

Remove temperature sensor upstream of gasoline particulate filter (B163/4) from center exhaust system (3).

Remove union nuts (6) and place lines to one side.

 Installation: Coat thread with heat-resistant lubricating paste.

Remove screw (7).

Remove clamp(1).

 Installation: Replace clamp(1).

 Installation: Replace the clamp (5).

Remove nut of decoupling element from bracket (2).

Remove elastomer bearings (4) from center exhaust system (3) and remove center exhaust system (3).



Check

Check decoupling element for damage and wear.

If there are problems,



Replace decoupling element.

 Nut, decoupling element for front exhaust system to bracket

Check elastomer bearings (4) for wear and damage.

If there are problems,



Replace elastomer bearing(4).



Clean

Remove combustion and corrosion residues from separating points.

Install in the reverse order.

Check installation position and for unobstructed movement of center exhaust system (3).

If there are problems,



Correct installation position of center exhaust system (3).

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Perform engine test run and check exhaust system in terms of leak tightness.
