Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Remove/install

Remove center and rear sections of lower engine compartment lining.

 Installation: Only install center and rear lower rear engine compartment paneling again after leak test.

Remove left and right underfloor paneling.

Remove reinforcement (8).

 Bolt, rear reinforcement to frame floor assembly

Remove temperature sensor upstream of gasoline particulate filter (B163/4).

Remove union nuts (2), seal exposed connections with suitable stop plugs and place lines to one side.

 Installation: Coat thread with heat-resistant lubricating paste.
First slightly tighten union nuts (2) by hand and then fully tighten.

Release and disconnect electrical connector at left exhaust gas flap actuator motor (M16/53).

Remove screw (3).

Remove clamp(4).

 Installation: Replace clip (4).

 Clamp at catalytic converter and front exhaust system

Remove exhaust system (1) from bracket (5).

 Helper required.

 Screw, bracket for decoupling element to front exhaust system

Remove elastomer bearings (6) from exhaust system (1).

 Installation: Lightly wet elastomer bearings (6) with lubricant.

Remove elastomer bearings (7) from exhaust system (1) and remove exhaust system (1).

Check decoupling element for damage and wear.

If there are problems,



Replace decoupling element.

 Nut, decoupling element for front exhaust system to bracket

Check elastomer bearings (6, 7) for wear and damage.

If there are problems,



Replace elastomer bearings (6, 7).

 Installation: Lightly wet elastomer bearings (6, 7) with lubricant.

Clean

Remove combustion and corrosion residues from separating points.

Install in the reverse order.

Check installation position and for unobstructed movement of exhaust system (1).

If there are problems,



Correct installation position of exhaust system (1).

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Perform engine test run, check engine for proper operation and exhaust system (1) for leaks.
