Detach rear section of lower engine compartment paneling

 Installation: Install engine compartment paneling only after engine test run.

Remove crossmember (1)



Unclip electrical connectors (G3/4x1, G3/6x1) and electrical lines for right O2 sensors from retaining clamps

Disconnect electrical connectors (G3/4x1, G3/6x1) of right O2 sensors

Remove right NOX sensor (nitrogen oxides) (N37/6b1) from exhaust pipe

Remove right temperature sensor upstream of NOX storage catalytic (B16) from exhaust pipe

Remove right exhaust gas recirculation line (43) from exhaust pipe

Remove right catalytic converter (2) from catalytic converter bracket (5)



Detach right catalytic converter (2) from center muffler (4) by unscrewing bolts (6)

 Installation: Replace screw/bolts (6).



Remove left catalytic converter (3) from center muffler (4) by removing bolts (7)

 Installation: Clean connecting points free of combustion and corrosion residues. Replace the seal (9) and screw/bolts (7).



Detach right catalytic converter (2) from exhaust manifold by unscrewing bolts (10)

 Installation: Replace screw/bolts (10).



Press center muffler (4) to the rear, pull out right catalytic converter (2) from central muffler (4) and remove it

 Installation: Clean connecting points free of combustion and corrosion residues. Install new seal (8).



Remove O2 sensors from right catalytic converter (2)

When replacing the catalytic converter

 Installation: Apply heat-resistant lubricant to the thread of O2 sensors.

Install in the reverse order



Check installation position and clearance of exhaust system

 The exhaust system must be mounted free of tension; align exhaust system if necessary.

 Danger!

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
