Remove/install

 Installation

Replace self-locking nuts and bolts

Support exhaust system at rear muffler

Remove rear exhaust-rubber mount on frame floor assembly

Unhook exhaust-rubber mount of center muffler on rear axle carrier

Lower exhaust system

5

Detach exhaust shielding plate (105e) in tunnel area

 Installation: Replace sheet metal nuts.

Remove transverse bridge (40) of center shifter console

Slacken bolts of propeller shaft intermediate bearing (7)



Detach rear propellor shaft (2) from rear differential assembly

 Flexible disk remains on propeller shaft.



Disconnect front propeller shaft (1) from transmission

 Flexible disk remains on propeller shaft.

The open end wrench for counterholding the nuts should be guided through opening in the transmission housing (arrow) .



Release fitting sleeves on flex disks

Remove bolts of propeller shaft intermediate bearing (7)

Pull off propeller shaft from centering spigot and at rear axle and remove backwards, in the process swivel the support of the center shifter console backwards

 Installation: Pack the cavities in the two centering sleeves with multipurpose grease in the case of rubber bearing bushings or compound bearing bushings.

Detach front propeller shaft from rear propeller shaft at the slide connection

 Only if required.

 Installation: Coat splined profile with Molykote grease: 



Long-life grease (NLGI grade 2)

Connect sections of propeller shaft

Checking

Check propeller shaft intermediate bearing (7) for wear.

Replace if necessary:

Remove/install propeller shaft intermediate bearing and replace grooved ball bearing

Check centering sleeves for wear

Replace if necessary:

Replace centering sleeve

Check flexible coupling or vibration damper (20) of front propeller shaft for wear

 Before removal mark vibration damper (20) relative to three-arm flange.

 Replace if necessary.

Check flexible coupling or vibration damper (20) of rear propeller shaft for wear

 Replace if necessary.

 Rear vibration damper, model 210.216 only.
