Pressing drive pinion out of rear axle housing

 Caution

Risk of injury to skin and eyes due to handling of transmission oil. Health risk caused by swallowing transmission oil

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not pour transmission oil into beverage bottles.

Pry drive pinion (1) using  puller (04) out of external tapered roller bearing and remove from rear axle housing.

 Secure drive pinion (1) against falling down.

Knock bearing shell of inner tapered roller bearing using suitable drift out of rear axle housing.

 The rear axle housing and bearing seat must not be damaged.
Otherwise, the rear axle housing will be rendered unusable and it will have to be replaced.

 The bearing shell must be replaced.

Remove spacer disk from rear axle housing.

 Spacer washer must be replaced.

Pry out radial shaft sealing ring using  removal and installation tool.

 The rear axle housing and sealing surfaces may not be damaged.
Otherwise, the rear axle housing will be rendered unusable and it will have to be replaced.

 Radial shaft sealing ring must be replaced.

Install  internal extractor (03) into bearing shell of external tapered roller bearing.

 Mount counter stay (02) onto  internal extractor (03).

Pull bearing shell of external tapered roller bearing using  internal extractor (03) and  counter stay (02) out of rear axle housing.

 The bearing shell of the external tapered roller bearing must be conducted using the  internal extractor (03) and  counter stay (02).
Otherwise, the rear axle housing will be damaged.

Check external tapered roller bearing for wear and damage.

When reusing the external tapered roller bearing.

If damage is found,



replace external tapered roller bearing.
