| Turn differential assembly several times while applying light blows to bearing cap and differential using a plastic mallet.

| This is to ensure that the rollers of the tapered roller bearings align and settle.
|

| Wrap cord around the differential assembly several times.
|
3
| Attach spring balance (3), pull on cord and measure friction torque.
|
|
| Use spring balances up to 6 kg.
|

| Pull on spring balance (3), spin differential assembly and read off friction torque on spring balance (3).
|
|
| The difference between the measured friction torque and specified friction torque must be corrected using the appropriate shims.
|
