Calculate difference dimension
The difference dimension corresponds to the overall thickness of the spacer washers on the ring gear side and opposite side.
The difference dimension is calculated by subtracting the height of the differential from the sum of internal size of the rear axle housing plus specified value for the preload of the differential bearings.
Example:
169.1 mm (internal size of rear axle housing)
+
0.2 mm (pre-tensioning of differential bearing)
-
158.5 mm (height of differential)
=
10.8 mm (difference dimension)
Determine spacer washers
The spacer washers are available in a thickness of 4.90 mm to 6.38 mm in graduations of 0.02 mm.
To ensure that the gear backlash is achieved in each case, use the thinner spacer washers on the ring gear side. E.g. for the value 10.8 mm: 5.30 mm on ring gear side, 5.50 mm on opposite side.
Example:
5.50 mm (spacer washer thickness)
+
5.30 mm (spacer washer thickness)
=
10.80 mm (difference dimension)
