Removing

Remove wheels

Remove brake drum

Remove end cover (6)

Pull out rear axle shaft (8).

  With vehicles having a differential lock, apply compressed air to the differential lock and check whether the shift collar is engaged before removing the right-hand half shaft.

Unscrew outer slotted nut (9)

Remove locking plate (10) and unscrew inner slotted nut (11)

Remove thrust plate (12) and outer tapered roller bearing (13)

Pull off rear wheel hub (4)

Remove oil retainer (3)

 Drive out through the holes in the rear wheel hub using a suitable drift

Remove radial seal (2)

Check thrust ring (1) for damage and galling

 If necessary, heat thrust ring to approx. 110 °C and remove with suitable drift.



Install

Install thrust ring (1)

 If removed 

Heat thrust ring to approx. 110 °C and install with inside chamfer towards center of axle.

Install radial sealing ring (2)

 Coat new radial sealing ring without rubberized external surface with sealant on outer circumference.

Install oil retainer (3)

Press sensor (14) out of sleeve

 With code B02 axles, the sensor must be pushed approx. 5 mm out of the sleeve to prevent damage to the sensor (14) when installing the rear wheel hub (4).

Push rear wheel hub (4) onto axle tube

 Take care not to damage the lip of the radial seal

Insert outer tapered roller bearing (13) and thrust plate (12)

Tighten inner slotted nut (11)

  To ensure that the tapered roller bearings are zero clearance, tighten internal slotted nut (11) while rotating the rear wheel hub and hitting the hub a few times in a crosswise manner with a rubber hammer.

Adjust wheel bearing play

 Slacken inner slotted nut and tighten until it lies without play on the thrust plate. Loosen the inner slotted nut by 45 °.

Fit locking plate (10)

 Use new locking plate and coat with gear oil.

Inspect wheel bearing play

If there is play, adjust if necessary.

Secure outer slotted nut (9)

By hammering locking plate into a suitable groove

Insert half shaft (8)



Bolt on end cover (6)

  Use new gasket (7) and new serrated bolts (5).

Press sensor (14) into sleeve

 With code B02 axles, press sensor (14) into sleeve up to stop without using impact tools.

Install brake drum
