Test values for drive shaft

The thickness of the shim or shims determines the friction torque of the tapered roller bearings. The following measuring procedure is used to determine the required shim thickness and thus ensure that the specified friction torque is obtained.
1 Lay outer tapered roller bearing (1) on coupling flange (3) and place pinion housing (2) on tapered roller bearing (1).

2 Insert inner tapered roller bearing (4) into pinion housing (2).
3 Measure and record dimension "A" between inner end face of inner tapered roller bearing (4) and outer end face of outer tapered roller bearing (1).

4 Measure and record dimension "B" between shaft shoulder (arrow) and contact surface of tapered roller bearing on drive pinion (5).
5 Calculate dimension "E" (thickness of shim).
Example:
Dimension "A" = 86.6 mm
Dimension "B" = 81.6 mm
Dimension "E" = Dimension "A" Dimension "B" Input shaft axial play
Dimension "E" = 86.6 mm 81.6 mm 0.2 mm = 4.8 mm
