Removing

Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.

Remove front or rear suspension strut (7)

Remove front suspension strut:

Model 211 with 4MATIC

Remove rear suspension strut:

Clamp the tensioning device (01) in the vise and insert the clamping plate (02a) and clamping plate (02b)



Install suspension strut (7) in spring compressor (01)

 When positioning the strut, attempt to get the maximum possible number of spring coils (4) in the spring clamp.

Clamp the spring (4) until the upper spring cup (5b) is relieved of load

Remove cap (5d)

Unscrew mounting nut (5c) and remove shock absorber (2)

 Counterhold piston rod (2a).



Remove bellows (6a) and stop damper (6b)

Remove lower spring cup (3e), contact rubber (3d) and support washer (3c)

Unclamp tensioning device (01) and remove spring (4) with upper spring cup (5b) and spring seat (5a)



Checking

Inspect shock absorber (2)

 Checking shock absorbers for leaks A thin film of oil on the shock absorber is permissible. Replace shock absorbers according to requirement: 

Install support ring (3a) in correct position on new shock absorber.

Check bellows (6a), stop damper (6b), spring seat (5a), support washer (3c) and contact rubber (3d) for wear

 Replace any components with oil contamination, cracks or deformation.

Assemble in the reverse order



Inspect headlamp adjustment, correct if necessary.

After installing new parts



Check and correct the adjustment of the headlamps
