1 Measure distance (A) between flange on bearing housing (2) and outer bearing ring on ball bearing (3) with depth gauge (1) and note as dimension "A".

The ball bearing (3) should not have axial play in the bearing housing (2), otherwise this could lead to measurement errors.

2 Measure height of collar on flange cover (4) with depth gauge (1) and note as dimension "B".

3 Measure width (C) of spacer ring (6) with depth gauge (5) and note as dimension "C".

4 Calculate dimension "D" and note.

Dimension "C" = dimension "A" - dimension "B"- dimension "C"

5 Determine shims to be installed.

The shim to be installed must be larger than dimension "D" by the pretensioning value specified in the table.
