1 Use a depth gauge to measure the distance between the collar at the coolant thermostat and the plate of the main valve and note.
2 Heat up water in a vessel with a suitable heat source (heat plate).
Heating up to approx. 10 °C below the opening temperature of the coolant thermostat (use thermometer !)
On no account use a welding torch or a soldering tool for heating the water.
3 Attach coolant thermostat to a wire and suspend in the heated water.
T20.10-0002-01
4 The heating-up rate should not be more than 1-2 °C per minute as of approx. 8 °C prior to start of opening. Stir the water as it is heating up (uniform heating).
5 At start of opening of the main valve read off the temperature at the thermometer and note.
6 Increase water temperature until it boils.
7 After 6 to 8 minutes again use a depth gauge to measure the distance between the collar of the coolant thermostat and the plate of the main valve and note.
8 Calculate the stroke from both determined dimensions (Position 1 and 7) and therefore determine if the full opening of the main valve has been reached.
9 In the event of negative test results, replace coolant thermostat.
