Remove/install

Switch off ignition and remove transmitter key

Drain coolant

Remove upper left charge air line

Detach bracket for engine oil cooling lines on oil filter housing

Remove poly-V belt

Unclip vacuum line for boost pressure control valve on coolant thermostat (1)

Disconnect Electrical connection on coolant thermostat heating element (R48)

Disconnect electrical connection on engine oil pressure and temperature sensor (B42)

9

Remove engine oil pressure and temperature sensor (B42) with oil duct

Unclip electrical line from coolant thermostat (1)

Detach coolant hose on coolant thermostat (1)

Remove screw/bolts (3) for coolant thermostat (1) on coolant pump (2)

 Bolt, coolant thermostat housing to coolant pump/oil filter housing

Remove screw/bolt for coolant thermostat (1) on oil filter housing

 Bolt, coolant thermostat housing to oil filter housing

Remove coolant thermostat (1)


The coolant thermostat (1) must not be disassembled.
The coolant thermostat (1) will be destroyed otherwise.

 Installation: Replace the sealing ring (5) and seal (4).

Install in the reverse order

Pour in coolant

Check engine cooling system for leaktightness

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Perform an engine test run and check engine for leaktightness
