Inspecting

3 Insert the piston rings (1, 2, 3) into the cylinder (6) and push with the piston into the zone of less wear of the cylinder wall.

This avoids incorrect measurements as a result of tilting of piston ring.

4 Use feeler gage (7) to measure the clearance of the piston ring gaps (1, 2, 3).

The figures should be between 0.4 and 0.65 mm.

Installing

5 Clean the piston ring grooves.

6 Fit the piston rings onto the piston from the piston crown in the order of 3, 2, 1.

The gap of the spiral spring (3.1) inserted into piston ring 3, must be offset 180° to the piston ring gap.

Offset the ring gaps of the piston rings (1, 2, 3) by 120°.
