Removing

1

Open engine hood and raise to vertical position

Remove air filter (4)

Remove air intake hose (3) from alternator (G2)

 Only on vehicles with code (Z90) vehicle, capable of fording up to 1195 mm or with code (Z69) vehicle, capable of fording up to 1500 mm.

Remove crankcase breather line (2) from air intake hose (1)

Remove air intake hose (1)

6

Remove oil deposits by turning the rotor shaft (6) in turbocharger compressor housing (5)



Checking

Check turbocharger compressor housing (5) and compressor impeller (7) for damage

 In case of damage:



Replace turbocharger.

Check air intake hose (1), exhaust gas turbocharger compressor housing (5) and air intake pipe in back of air filter (4) for oil deposits



Notes for evaluation of turbocharger in the event of engine blue smoke

Check rotor shaft (6) for easy and even running.

 If hard to turn:



Replace turbocharger.

Inspect axial play and radial play at rotor shaft (6)

 For an excessively high axial play or radial play on the rotor shaft (6):



Replace turbocharger.

Check control unit (8)

 Allows escaping of the generated air pressure at the control canister (8):

Replace turbocharger.

Check air intake hose (1) for damage, replace if necessary.



Install

Install air intake hose (1)

Attach crankcase breather line (2) to air intake hose (1)

Attach air intake hose (3) to alternator (G2)

 Only on vehicles with code (Z90) vehicle, capable of fording up to 1195 mm or with code (Z69) vehicle, capable of fording up to 1500 mm.

Install air filter (4)

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Allow engine to run and check in area of air intake hose (1) for leakage

 Visual inspection.
