Remove/install

Disconnect battery ground line

 Installation: Code radio, set clock, normalize power windows and, set clock on stationary heater if installed.

Remove charge air manifold

Disconnect fuel lines (3, 4) from injection pump (feed and return line)

Remove injection lines

 For this purpose loose injection lines.

Seal openings using blind plugs. If individual injection lines are removed and replaced, replace retaining clips.

Unscrew electrical line from electrohydraulic cut-off (Y1/1)

 Not visible in picture.

Disconnect connector (5) from injection timing device

Remove protective sleeve on distributor fuel injection pump connector (Y23/3x1)

 The protective sleeve is fastened behind the brake booster on the wiring harness.

Disconnect connector (Y23/3x1) on distributor fuel injection pump

 Do not disconnect cable at injection pump

Unscrew bolts on injection pump holder (2) behind engine block



Remove viscous fan with fan shroud

Turn crankshaft in rotation direction to 10° before ignition TDC on 1st cylinder

 Degree scale on belt pulley for TDC pin Remove valve cover to check position of camshaft



Unscrew nuts (1) on injection pump intermediate flange



Remove injection pump

 Observe coupling sleeve when pulling out.

 Installation:

Engine must be positioned to 10° before ignition TDC on 1st cylinder Do not twist injection pump shaft when inserting

Remove, install drive pinion on distributor injection pump drive pinion

Install in the reverse order

Bleed injection system

 Open at least one injection line in injection system to bleed more rapidly



Checking

Check start of delivery

 If necessary, adjust start of delivery 
