Removal
1 Place cylinder head on cylinder head holding fixture base and clamp in place using clamping device.
2 Screw stud bolt (arrow) on valve lifter into a free threaded hole (e.g. for rocker arm bracket) in cylinder head.
3 Remove collets (6)
Press down thrust rod on valve lifter and remove collets (6) using a magnetic pin.
4 Relieve valve lifter and remove valve springs (3, 4) with spring cup (5).
5 Remove shims (1, 2).
Checking
6 Check condition and length of valve springs (3, 4).
Check valve springs (3, 4) for cracks; replace if necessary.
The test value given in the table gives the dimension of a new valve spring (3, 4) and serves for orientation.
Install
7 Insert shims (1, 2) for inner and outer valve spring.
8 Install valve springs (3, 4) and spring cup (5).
Install tighter wound sides of valve springs (3, 4) in direction of the cylinder head (8). Ensure correct seating of shims (1, 2) for valve springs (3, 4).
9 Press down spring cup (5) with valve lifter and insert collets (6) in groove on valves (9).
10 Relieve thrust rod for valve lifter.
Ensure correct seating of all parts otherwise the engine can be damaged.
11 Remove valve lifter.
