The intake camshaft (1) can only be removed together with the exhaust camshaft (2)

Remove engine hood

Check basic position of camshafts

 Installation: Check the valve clearance and adjust if necessary before installing the cylinder head cover.

Set valve clearance

Remove chain tensioner

Counterhold exhaust camshaft (2) at hexagon
(arrow A) and loosen bolt (3) on camshaft sprocket (4)

 Do not loosen bolt (3) jerkily otherwise the exhaust camshaft (2) can be damaged.



Counterhold exhaust camshaft (1) at hexagon
(arrow B) and loosen bolt (5) on camshaft adjuster (6)

 Do not loosen bolt (5) jerkily otherwise the intake camshaft (1) can be damaged.



Fix timing chain (7) using a cable tie (8) onto the exhaust camshaft (2) camshaft sprocket (4)

Loosen camshaft sprocket (4) from exhaust camshaft (2) seat

 Installation: Ensure correct seating of the camshaft sprocket (4) on the exhaust camshaft (2).

Remove bearing bridge (9) and camshaft bearing cap (10) on exhaust camshaft (2)

 Observe loosening and tightening sequence otherwise the exhaust camshaft (2) can be damaged.

Remove exhaust camshaft (2) out of the bearing seat, unscrew bolt (3) and remove exhaust camshaft (2)

 Installation: Turn intake camshaft (1) at hexagon (arrow B) in direction of the exhaust camshaft (2) until the exhaust camshaft (2) can be inserted free of tension.
The crankshaft must not turn in the process.

Remove camshaft bearing cap (11) for inlet camshaft (1)

 Observe loosening and tightening sequence otherwise the intake camshaft (1) can be damaged.

Lift intake camshaft (1) and remove bolt (5)

Remove camshaft adjuster (6) from intake camshaft (1) and remove intake camshaft (1)

 Installation: Ensure correct seating of the camshaft adjuster (6) on the intake camshaft (1).

Remove camshaft adjuster (6) from timing chain (7)

 Installation: Insert camshaft adjuster (6) in the timing chain (7) in such a way that marking (arrow D) on the camshaft adjuster (6) and marking (arrow C) on the
camshaft sprocket (4) coincide with each other at the height of the timing case cover upper edge.
