C Basic position of crankshaft for adjusting the timing
| Removing | ||
1 | Inspect basic position of camshaft
2 | Remove cover on top front of cylinder head
3 | Position piston of cylinder 1 at 30° after TDC | At 30° after top dead center on 1st cylinder the camshafts can be turned without the valves touching the piston crown.
4 | Remove chain tensioner (14)
5 | Remove exhaust camshaft sprocket (78)
6 | Lift timing chain (73) off intakecamshafttiming gear (75)
7 | Turn/lock camshafts in basic position | Lock camshafts with fixing pins (01) through the bores in camshaft bearing caps 1 and 6 in the bores in the camshaft flanges.
| |||
8 | Reset piston of 1st cylinder to 20° after top dead center | In the process pull the timing chain upwards so that it is tight.
| Install | ||
9 | Fit the timing chain (73) at intake camshaft sprocket (75) | Engine with camshaft adjustment: The circumferential end stops on the intake camshaft sprocket (75) must be in the "late" position (position of end stops in cutouts of stub shaft), (arrow).
10 | Install exhaust camshaft sprocket (78) with timing chain (73) put on | Replace camshaft sprocket bolts, only use them once
| |||
11 | Install chain tensioner (14) | If the complete chain tensioner is slackened, it must be removed, disassembled and reassembled as described.
12 | Remove fixing pins (01)
13 | Inspect basic position of camshaft | to do this, turn engine twice in the direction of engine rotation. |
