Checking

Check engine oil level, correct

Warm engine up to operating temperature

Coolant temperature 60–80 °C

Remove cylinder head cover

Rotate engine at crankshaft until cam at the compensating element to be inspected is at its base circle

Do not rotate engine in opposite direction of rotation.

Compensating elements which are not positioned at the base circle of the cam should be replaced.

Use a suitable tool to press compensating element (4) by hand

Do not use a steel tool.

Press compensating element (4) with normal hand force.

If excessive pressure is used, the compensating element (4) appears to drop. In reality the valve opens.

If one compensating element (4) drops compared to the others

If several compensating elements (4) drop, inspect oil gallery and oil feed drillings of the compensating elements for impurities.
