| Check | ||
3 | Turn the crankshaft in the operating direction until the piston of the cylinder corresponding to the valves to be checked, reaches the TDC of the compression stroke | In this case, the valves to be checked are totally closed, valves clearance can be checked, and pushrods can be easily spun.
4 | Adjust the clearance of the valves (A) to be checked
| Set valve clearance | . | |
5 | Fasten the dial gage support (4) in such a manner that the dial gage feeler (5) rests on the spring retainer (6) of the exhaust valve or on the intake valves bridge (7). Set the dial gage scale to “0” | Set the dial gage with 15 mm preload, in order to enable the measuring of the valve stroke (B).

6 | Check the valve stroke (B) | Turn the crankshaft in the operating direction until observing the maximum valve stroke (B), indicated on the dial gage. The valve will be completely open (maximum stroke), before the dial gage pointer reverses the direction of movement.
Check the stroke (B) of all valves.
7 | Compare the values found out with the specified values |
| |
If value (B) obtained in the checking is lower than the specified value, check eventual wear on the camshaft cams.
