Danger! | Safety measures to carry out maintenance jobs in gas fired engine | ||
1 | Unscrew the bolts (4) attaching the flywheel (3) | On M 366 LAG engines remove before the sensors (6, 7) in the flywheel housing. | |
Mark the position of flywheel (3) in relation to the crankshaft (5) at the point indicated by arrow. | |||
2 | Remove the flywheel (3). | Strike the flywheel with a plastic head hammer to release it from the crankshaft flange (5). | |
| Check: | ||
3 | Check the engine flywheel (3) for cracks, fissures or damage | If necessary, machine the flywheel. | |
4 | Check the ring gear on engine flywheel (3) | In the case of wear: | |
Replace the ring gear. | |||
5 | Measure the shank length of bolts (4, 4a) attaching the flywheel (3) | Should the flywheel utilize the bolts (4a), replace them by the bolts (4) fully threaded shank. Do not install both bolt types in the same flywheel. | |
| Installing | ||
6 | Install the flywheel (3) on crankshaft flange (5) | Observe the markings made at removal, indicated by arrow. | |
7 | Install the bolts (4) | Apply grease to the thread and the head contact face of the bolts.(4). | |
Tighten the bolts crosswise. | |||
8 | Install the sensors (6, 7) in the flywheel housing. | Only in M 366 LAG engines. |
