Installing rear crankshaft radial sealing ring

 Caution

Risk of injury to skin and eyes due to handling of engine oil. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing engine oil

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

For a flywheel with race

Wet radial shaft sealing ring (1) on the inner sealing lip with engine oil.

 Install radial shaft sealing ring (1) dry on the outer surface.

Push sleeve (2) of the  insertion device over the flange (3) of the  insertion device .

Push radial shaft sealing ring (1) with a larger inside diameter over the sleeve (2).

Position flange (3) with the radial shaft sealing ring (1) on the crankshaft flange (4) and screw in available screws (6) of the flywheel.

 The bore (A) in the flange (3) must be positioned over the dowel pin (7) on the crankshaft flange (4).

With engine 457.9, 458.9
Push washer (8) with the marking "457" over the flange (3).

5.2

For engine 541.9, 542.9, 941.9, 942.9
Push washer (8) with the marking "500" over the flange (3).

Push pulling-in sleeve (9) over the flange (3) and screw on nut (10).

Press in radial shaft sealing ring (1) with the pulling-in sleeve (9) by screwing on the nut (10) up to a noticeable end stop into the timing case (5).

 The installation depth of the radial shaft sealing ring (1) is prescribed by the  insertion device.

Pull sleeve (2) out of the radial shaft sealing ring (1); while doing so, twist the sleeve (2).
