Remove cylinder head.

Check piston crown by means of visual inspection for wear and damage.

Check cylinder barrel for wear and damage.

Remove respective piston.

Only if wear or damage was found on the piston crown or cylinder contact surface.

Check piston skirt and piston ring by means of a visual inspection for wear and damage.

Remove connecting rod and perform a visual check to check connecting rod bearing bushing (connecting rod small end) for wear and damage or twisting of the oil holes.

If score marks or notches are visible:

Replace connecting rod.

If the damage profile can no longer be assessed clearly:

Check connecting rod.

Check connecting rod bearing and connecting rod journal by means of a visual inspection for wear and damage.

If damage or wear is visible:

Remove engine and repair.

Install connecting rod.

Install piston.
