Danger! | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. | Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
4 | Raise vehicle | ||
5 | Detach dust caps of the brake bleeder valve (5), connect hose of brake fluid receptacle to brake bleeder valve (5) of right rear brake caliper (4) and open brake bleeder valve (5). Then have a second person depress brake pedal several times and close brake bleeder valve (5) again. | Only close brake bleeder valve (5) when brake fluid is discharged free of bubbles and without contamination (brake fluid has light color).
| |||
6 | Carry out bleeding process on left rear brake caliper (4), right rear brake caliper (3) and left front brake caliper (3) in the same way | Observe correct sequence.
| |||
| |||
7.1 | Remove dust cap from bleed valve (7), connect hose of brake fluid receptacle to bleed valve (7) of slave cylinder (6) and open bleed valve (7) and close it again | Only on transmission 717.470/471/473/478
Only close the brake bleeder valve (7) when brake fluid escapes free of bubbles and without contamination (light color of brake fluid).
8 | Press dust caps onto the brake bleeder valves (5) and bleed valve (7) | Bleeder valve (7) only on transmission 717.470/471/473/478.
9 | Lower vehicle | ||
10 | Disconnect brake fluid replacement unit | Observe owner's manual of brake fluid replacement unit.
| |||
11 | Check brake fluid level, correct if necessary
12 | Screw on cap (1) of brake fluid reservoir (2)
13 | Check leaktightness of brake system | If a test trip is carried out after a repair to the hydraulic system, the brakes are to be applied with an ABS control.
| Check brake system for leaks |
