Danger! | Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury caused by brake fluid coming into contact with skin and eyes. | Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid.
1 | Check accessible components in clutch operating system for external leaks | Replace components if they are damaged.
The clutch operating system is a very sensitive electrohydraulic system. Even the smallest amount of air in the hydraulic section will cause irreparable damage in this system. Bleeding must be performed extremely carefully in order to ensure that the system functions correctly following the bleeding procedure. Any air pockets in the system can prevent the electronics from engaging a gear thus disabling the vehicle.
2 | Remove cover (1) | ||
3 | Open cap of expansion reservoir (2) and extract old brake fluid | The level of the brake fluid should still extend to above that of the supply opening.
| Brake fluid notes | ||
4 | Connect filling and bleeding device to expansion reservoir (2) | To ensure that bleeding is performed properly, only the approved filler/bleeder units should be used. Pay attention to manufacturer's operating instructions. The filler/bleeder unit must be completely full.
Brake fluid as per Specifications for Operating Fluids:
| Brake fluids (DOT 4 plus) | Sheet 331.0 | |
5 | Switch on filler/bleeder unit | Set the bleeding pressure to a max. 2.7 bar. The bleeding pressure must not drop below 1.5 bar. The filler/bleeder unit remains switched on during the entire bleeding procedure.
6 | Replace brake fluid | Drawn-off brake fluid must not be reused. Bleed at the bleed valve (3) of the slave cylinder until fresh brake fluid is discharged without bubbles. Allow at least 0.5 l of brake fluid to flow through the bleed valve (3).
During the bleeding process, press the clutch pedal once and then release it (on vehicles with overcenter spring there is a risk of crushing).
7 | Switch off and remove filler/bleeder unit | Pay attention to manufacturer's operating instructions.
8 | Check fluid level in expansion reservoir (2); correct if necessary
9 | Install paneling (1) |
