4255 - Service and parking brakes Function check All models (except T2 new with compressed-air assisted brake system)

Note

In the case of deviations from the test data mentioned in the job text, the cause must be established and eliminated against a separate order.

 Start engine in order to provide adequate vacuum for checking the service brake.

Vacuum-assisted brake system

 Actuate brake pedal. After approx. 1/3 of the total pedal travel a firm resistance must be felt.

Lever and stick-type parking brake

 Apply parking brake.
Adequate braking effect must be available after the following number of notches:

MB 100 = 1)

Transporter T1, T2 old = 5 - 6 notches

Transporter T2 new = 2 - 3 notches

1) up to vehicle ident. end number 038999 = 6 - 7 notches

as of vehicle ident. end number 039000 = 8 - 10 notches
as of vehicle ident. end number 107797 = 3 - 4 notches

Spring-actuated parking brake (T2 old)

Note

Build up operating pressure in compressed-air system.

 Apply parking brake.
The indicator lamp "parking brake" on the instrument panel must light up. The piston stroke of the spring-type brake actuator between release position and braking position must not be greater than 60 mm.
