Commercially available tool

 Extract oil from sump via the oil dipstick guide tube (arrow) or drain while still hot.

 Unscrew mounting screw (7) for filter bowl. Remove filter bowl (5), drain and clean.

 Replace rubber seal (2) and sealing ring (6).

 Insert compression spring (4) and new filter element (3) in filter bowl. Start filter bowl on filter head (1) and tighten with the mounting screw. Tightening torque 40 Nm!

 Replace sealing ring for oil sump drain plug (arrow) if oil was drained. Install drain plug and tighten.
Tightening torque 25 Nm (M 141.5) or

50 Nm (M 261.5)!

Drain plug (example)

 Fill oil in engine (arrow) up to the "maximum" mark on the oil dipstick.

 Start engine and observe oil pressure gauge. After a few seconds the oil pressure indicator lamp must go out.

 Check filter and drain plug for leaks.

 Switch off engine. After approx. 2 minutes, check and correct oil level.
