Danger

Risk of explosion due to escaping combustible gas or overheating of gas cylinders.Risk of injury caused by burns to skin and eyes. Risk of frostbite to body parts caused by escaping gas and by touching components near the valves when emptying gas cylinders. Risk of poisoning or suffocation caused by inhaling gas.

Remove any sources of ignition.
Protective clothing, safety gloves and safety glasses must always be worn.
Ensure that the work area is adequately ventilated.
When working on vehicles at ambient temperatures over 60 °C, all gas cylinders must be removed.

AS00.00-Z-0018-01A

Danger

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Check

1

Check whether vehicle is affected by measure.

Affected vehicles: Check gas cylinder (code: T1NGASDRU, acc. no.: 47 920 60)
Model 902.### ## as of 000010 up to 999074, 903.### ## as of 000010 up to 999074, 904.### ## as of 000010 up to 999074 with code MS7 (NGT (Natural Gas Technology) Sprinter)

SM47.10-D-0029-01AAA

For authorized MercedesBenz service partners, only the entry in the "Extended VEGA Application" (EVA) system, in the "Current" tab is decisive. An additional test of the affected vehicles in the workshop information system (WIS) or vehicle list is thereby not necessary.

Remove

2

Raise vehicle.

Model 902, 903, 904 with code KL9 (Gas cylinder in underfloor location)

AR00.60-D-1000A

3

Remove protective grille (2) of gas cylinder units.

Model 902, 903, 904 with code KL9 (Gas cylinder in underfloor location)
If protective grille (2) is installed.

On gas cylinders (1) in an underfloor location on the right and left side of vehicle, the fixed-in-place protective grilles cannot be separately removed.

To do so, remove bolts (3) and remove respective protective grille (2). Aid of helper required.

Clean

4

Clean gas cylinders (1).

Check

5

Check gas cylinders (1) for corrosion.

Check for damage or condition that could prevent any further use, especially in the area of the retaining straps.

Use a mirror in areas where visibility is poor.

Gas cylinders (1) with a corrosion depth of 0.25 mm can still be used.

If corresponding findings are OK,

Proceed with operation step 20.

If corrosion is detected that rules out any further use,

continue with operation step 6.

Remove

6

Close shutoff valves (5) to unaffected gas cylinders (1).

Gas cylinder in underfloor location, gas cylinder in vehicle interior/load compartment

AR47.10-D-0005A

On vehicles with ECE homologation, solenoid valves are installed instead of manual shutoff valves (5).
Disconnect electrical connectors from solenoid valves and manually close shutoff valves (5). To do so, use suitable box wrench.

Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

AS00.00-Z-0005-01A

7

Start engine and leave running at a standstill until engine stops by itself.

Once the engine has come to a standstill, the gas lines (4) and the affected gas cylinders (1) are then sufficient drained.
Then switch off the ignition.

8

Close shutoff valves (5) on affected gas cylinders (1) and open unaffected gas cylinders (1) again.

If replacement parts are not available.

AR47.10-D-0005A

Maintain sequence at all times.
Otherwise, the previously drained gas cylinders (1) will be filled with gas again.

Using the remaining gas cylinders (1) this can, if necessary, enable the vehicle to continue to be driven.

Remove

9

Remove respective gas line (4).

10

Expose electric lines on retaining frame (7).

If solenoid valves are installed.

11

Remove respective retaining frame (7) together with affected gas cylinders (1).

To do so, prop up retaining frame (7) using major assembly mount and suitable mounting plate then remove bolts (6).

Aid of helper required.

Install

12

Replace affected gas cylinder (1).

Ensure that there is sufficient unobstructed movement between the gas cylinders (1) and the adjacent component parts or the vehicle frame.
Otherwise, the gas cylinders (1) may be damaged.

To do so, position retaining frame (7) using major assembly mount at installation location then screw in and tighten bolts (6).

Aid of helper required.
