On MY2000 Model 163.154/172 vehicle with vehicle identification end no. from A145273 up to A150476, please regard the following:
When the ETR, airbag, side airbag control module (N2/2), part no. 002 542 49 18, is replaced with new control module part no.
002 542 81 18, the vehicle must be inspected to determine if the splice clip diode (1) is installed in the cockpit wiring harness behind the instrument cluster.
This splice clip diode is not compatible with the 002 542 81 18 control module and must be removed.
If the diode is NOT removed and new control module
002 542 81 18 is installed, the seat belt warning buzzer will activate on startup with the driver seat belt buckled.

1 | Ensure ignition key is in position 0 | To avoid setting error codes. | |
2 | Remove ETR, airbag, side airbag control module (N2/2) | Confirm part no. of airbag control module being replaced is 002 542 49 18. | |
3 | Remove instrument cluster | ||
4 | Remove tape to expose white diode case (1) and fully open diode case | Approximately 10cm behind instrument cluster connector (A1) between circuits 1814 (Green) and 2104 (Yellow). Release locks on sides to open diode case. | |
5 | Carefully lift and release each wire from its contact terminal | ||
6 | Discard "splice clip diode" | ||
7 | Separately insulate each wire at point where splice contact pierced wire insulation | Electrical tape should extend 20mm beyond both sides of pierced insulation. | |
8 | Using electrical tape, completely tape over exposed section of harness where diode was removed | ||

9 | Reinstall instrument cluster | ||
10 | Install new airbag control module (N2/2) | Part no. 002 542 81 18. | |
11 | Version code airbag control module using STAR Diagnosis | ||
12 | Access instrument cluster with STAR Diagnosis | As of Jan/00, DAS update for STAR Diagnosis will automatically activate the "Lamp Test Delay" function whenever diagnostic communication is made with the instrument cluster. "Lamp Test Delay" activation is a hidden function and is not viewable. | |
13 | Read out/repair and erase any relevant fault codes with STAR Diagnosis |
