Service information: Obligation to retrofit outside mirror

Modification notes

According to directive 2003/97/EC all commercial vehicles of classes N2 (commercial vehicles with permissible gross vehicle weight of 3.5 up to 12 t) and N3 (commercial vehicles with permissible gross vehicle weight over 12 t) which have been registered as of 01.01.2000 have to be fitted with a wide-angle rearview mirror and a curb mirror or short-range mirror on the co-driver side.

Commercial vehicles which have been registered after 01.01.2000 and do not yet meet the requirements of directive 2003/97/EC, up to 31.03.2009 will have to be retrofitted as per the directive 2007/38/EC (retrofitting with mirror on heavy-duty trucks).

 For Germany only:

Vehicles affected by the obligation to retrofit, on which the main inspection is due after 01.10.2008, already have to be retrofitted at this point in time corresponding to the directive 2007/38/EC (retrofitting with mirror on heavy-duty trucks).

Solution 1: Minimum solution for meeting directive 2007/38
 Replacement of mirror glasses of wide-angle rearview mirror and curb mirror on the passenger side.

Solution 2: Expanded MB solution for meeting directive 2007/38
 Replacement of mirror glasses of wide-angle rearview mirror and curb mirror on the passenger side
and
 Replacement of mirror glass on wide-angle rearview mirror on driver-side (wide-angle rearview mirror fitted)
or
 Installation of a wide-angle rearview mirror on the driver-side (wide-angle rearview mirror not fitted)
