 Reduced maximum speed for winter tires with identification "V" (speed index)

The maximum tire load capacity for V tires is defined by the ETRTO (European Tyre and Rim Technical Organisation) standard only to
210 km/h.

With increasing speed over 210 km/h, the permissible tire load capacity reduces by the so-called load scrub (1.5 % per 5 km/h) up to 91 % at 240 km/h.

This can lead to the vehicle's road performance being compromised at speeds up to 240 km/h. The permissible maximum speed is a function of the tire load index and the permitted vehicle axle load (as per section 16 of the certificate of registration).

This maximum speed can be determined specific to the vehicle using the corresponding load scrub table for the V winter tire.

An appropriate M & S (mud and snow) maximum permissible speed sticker is to be affixed within the driver's field of view.
