1 | Prior to cleaning gearbox case, check the magnetic drain plugs for presence of metal particles. Larger, granular or irregular shaped particles indicate chipping or similar damage. Smaller, powder-like particles indicates uneven or excessive wear. If metal particles are detected, carefully lookout for damage or wear while inspecting the internal components.
2 | General cleaning procedure: | Carefully remove the old sealant without damaging the metal surfaces. Wash parts in cleaning solvent to remove old lubricant and dirt deposits. Use a bristle brush for cleaning of parts which are with thick deposits of dust.
3 | Drying the cleaned parts: | Dry cleaned parts which are wet with low pressure compressed air. Wiping the wet parts with a cotton cloth could leave fluff deposits. Rigidly hold the bearings to prevent them from spinning when drying. Do not use high pressure to clean the bearings as it can damage the rollers and can cause injury if the rollers fly off.
4 | Lubricating the bearings: | Immediately after cleaning, lubricate anti-friction bearings with gearbox lubricant. Cover lubricated bearings to protect from dust. |
