For reasons of current concern, we would like to inform you that using the  pliers, part number 000 589 37 37 00 may result in excessive piston ring spread during installation.

This does not case the piston ring to break right away, but the high slip on stress during piston ring installation may result in preliminary damage and make the rings more susceptible to damage later on.

For this reason, the maximum allowed spread for the piston rings (keystone, taper-faced and double-bevelled rings) is specified as 43 mm.

Smaller spreads are permissible if damage to the components can be ruled out.



Prior to using the  pliers, you must therefore first remove the adjustment scale (2) on the  pliers.

Prior to removing or installing piston rings (1), the spread must be set to 43 mm using the knurled screw (3).
