The underfloor area of a vehicle is particularly exposed to the effects of corrosion.
The objective of the underfloor protection is to protect the underfloor (and partly the longitudinal member area) against mechanical damage (stone chippings in particular), against chemical stresses (road salt in particular) as well as soundproofing.
The function of the underfloor protection and the longitudinal member coating on the latest Mercedes-Benz vehicle models is mainly achieved through so-called underfloor paneling or covering made of plastic.
Along with this, sprayable process materials can be used to apply an appropriately thick coating of a permanently resilient, high-strength underfloor protection (to match the load involved).
The energy from the impact of the stone chips is absorbed thanks to the flexibility, penetration down to the sheet metal is avoided and potential corrosion is prevented.
