Networking
In vehicles as of model year 2016, there are two variants of the chassis CAN (CAN E).
Variant 1:
If the vehicle does not have any of the equipment codes specified in Variant 2, then, as before, only one chassis CAN is available.
Version 2:
If the vehicle has one of the following equipment codes, then one chassis CAN 1 (CAN E1) and one chassis CAN 2 (CAN E2) is available:
Code 218 (Reversing camera)
code 234 (Blind Spot Assist)
Code 459 (Steel suspension with adjustable damping)
Code 475 (Tire pressure monitor)
Code 476 (Lane Keeping Assist)
Code 513 (Traffic Sign Assist)
code 614 (Bi-xenon headlamp)
code 615 (Bi-xenon headlamp with active curve lights)
code 618 (Bi-xenon headlamp)
code 621 (Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic))
code 622 (Intelligent Light System)
Code 631 (Static LED headlamps for left-hand traffic system)
Code 632 (Static LED headlamps for right-hand traffic system)
The differences between variant 1 and variant 2 are explained in the following text. Vehicles up to model year 2016 are assigned to Variant 1.

N2/10 | Supplemental restraint system control unit |
Location
The Supplemental Restraint System control unit is located on the transmission tunnel.
Task
The Supplemental Restraint System control unit has the following tasks:
Read in sensors and signals
Evaluation of input factors
Actuation of components
Transmitting signals
Read in sensors and signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
Direct line
Seat occupied recognition LIN (LIN E2)
Chassis CAN (variant 1) or chassis CAN 1 (variant 2)
Direct line
The signals from the following sensors are read in via direct lines:
Left sidebag sensor (A53)
Right sidebag sensor (A54)
Front passenger seat occupancy recognition (B41/1) (except CODE U10 (Automatic front passenger airbag shutoff) and except CODE U18 (Automatic child seat recognition ACSR [AKSE]))
Left frontal acceleration sensor (B48/1)
Right frontal acceleration sensor (B48/2)
Left front door pressure sensor (B48/7)
Right front door pressure sensor (B48/8)
Left rear door pressure sensor (B48/9) (with CODE 293 (Sidebags in rear))
Right rear door pressure sensor (B48/10) (with CODE 293 (Sidebags in rear))
Left front bumper pedestrian protection sensor (B151/1) (with CODE U60 (Active engine hood (pedestrian protection)))
Right front bumper pedestrian protection sensor (B151/3) (with CODE U60 (Active engine hood (pedestrian protection)))
Driver belt buckle restraint system switch (S68/3)
Front passenger belt buckle restraint system switch (S68/4)
Left rear seat belt buckle switch (S68/5)
Right rear seat belt buckle switch (S68/6)
Center rear seat belt buckle switch (S68/14)
Driver seat position detection switch (S68/19) (with CODE 494 (USA version) or CODE 460 (Canada version))
Front passenger seat position detection switch (S68/20) (with CODE 494 (USA version) or CODE 460 (Canada version))
Seat occupied recognition LIN
On vehicles with code (U18) Automatic child seat recognition (ACSR [AKSE]), the status of the seat occupied recognition is detected by the front passenger seat occupied recognition and ACSR [AKSE] (B48) and sent over the seat occupancy LIN to the supplemental restraint system control unit.
On vehicles with CODE U10 (Automatic front passenger airbag shutoff) the seat occupancy recognition status is recorded by the Weight Sensing System (WSS) control unit (N110) and sent over the seat occupancy LIN to the Supplemental Restraint System control unit.
Chassis CAN (variant 1) or chassis CAN 1 (variant 2)
The following signals are also read in over the chassis CAN (variant 1) or chassis CAN 1 (variant 2):
Terminal status of terminal 15
Status of the central locking (CL [ZV])
Vehicle speed
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.
Actuation of components
The following components are actuated via direct lines:
Pyrotechnical separator (F19/3f750) (model 242.890)
Pyrofuse (F39) (except model 242.890)
