Function requirements for video operation in general
Status circuit 30g ON
Transport mode not active
No smartphone connected via CarPlay to the multimedia connection unit (A90/5)
The video DVD is inserted into the DVD drive of the COMAND controller unit (A40/3)
Video mode, general
The DVD drive of the COMAND controller unit supports playback of video DVDs. After the activation of the "Video" menu and the "DVD Video" submenu, the video display appears on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8).
The system can be operated using the:
Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
Operating panels on the COMAND controller unit
The video DVD function is only available when the vehicle is stationary (v < 5 km/h). When the vehicle is moving, only acoustic playback remains active and - for safety reasons - a warning is shown on the Audio/COMAND display. The COMAND controller unit reads in the speed signal from the interior CAN (CAN B).
Function sequence for video mode
The signals from the Audio/COMAND control panel are transmitted over the telematics CAN (CAN A) to the COMAND controller unit, on vehicles with code B56 (Drive Kit Plus for the iPhone® 4/4s) or code B62 (Drive Kit Plus for the iPhone® 5s/5c/5) over the Drive Kit control unit for the iPhone® (N123/7)
The picture signals are transmitted internally in the COMAND controller unit via a separate video line. The COMAND controller unit sends the picture data over an LVDS line (Low Voltage Differential Signal) to the Audio/COMAND display, on vehicles with code B56 (Drive Kit Plus for the iPhone® 4/4s) or code B62 (Drive Kit Plus for the iPhone® 5s/5c/5) over the Drive Kit control unit for the iPhone®. The COMAND controller unit forwards the control signals via the telematics CAN to the Audio/COMAND display.
On vehicles except CODE 810 (Sound system), the audio output takes place over the speaker system by the COMAND controller unit. On vehicles with CODE 810 (Sound system), the COMAND controller unit sends the audio signals via Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3), which amplifies the signals and outputs them over the speaker system.
