Automatic interior lights control in general
The automatic interior lights control actuates all the components of the interior illumination (IBL). The appropriate requests are generated automatically. The master control unit for the automatic interior lights control is the SAM control unit.
The automatic interior lights control function encompasses the following subfunctions:
Locator lighting function sequence
Function sequence for orientation lighting
Function sequence for exit illumination
Function sequence for interior illumination with ATA [EDW] alarm (anti-theft alarm system)
Additional function requirement for locator lighting
Automatic interior lights switched on using the interior lamp automatic (N70s3) function button
The overhead control panel control unit (OCP) directly reads in the status of the interior lamp automatic function button and transmits it to the SAM control unit.
Locator lighting function sequence
When unlocking the vehicle wirelessly, the SAM control unit activates the locator lighting and sends the request to switch on the interior illumination to the an overhead control panel control unit (OCP).
The overhead control panel (OCP) control unit then actuates the following components directly:
left front reading lamp (N70e2)
Right front reading lamp (N70e3)
Dome lamp, rear (E15/3) (with code LD9 (rear interior lamp))
Left front vanity mirror illumination (E14/6)
Right front vanity mirror illumination (E14/7)
The SAM control unit also actuates the following components directly:
Right front footwell lamp (E17/15) (with CODE LC7 (Lighting for front footwell))
Left front footwell lamp (E17/16) (with CODE LC7 (Lighting for front footwell))
Additional function requirement for orientation lighting
Automatic interior lights switched on using the interior lamp automatic (N70s3) function button
The overhead control panel control unit (OCP) directly reads in the status of the interior lamp automatic function button and transmits it to the SAM control unit.
Function sequence for orientation lighting
With switching of the circuit 15C, the SAM control unit activates the orientation lighting and sends the request to switch on the interior illumination to the overhead control panel control unit (OCP).
The overhead control panel (OCP) control unit then actuates the following components directly:
Dome lamp, rear (E15/3) (with code LD9 (rear interior lamp))
left front reading lamp (N70e2)
Right front reading lamp (N70e3)
The SAM control unit also actuates the following components directly:
Right front footwell lamp (E17/15) (with CODE LC7 (Lighting for front footwell))
Left front footwell lamp (E17/16) (with CODE LC7 (Lighting for front footwell))
When the vehicle doors are closed, all lights that are switched on are switched off once the OFF delay time has expired.
Additional function requirements for exit illumination
Automatic interior lights switched on using the interior lamp automatic (N70s3) function button
The overhead control panel control unit (OCP) directly reads in the status of the interior lamp automatic function button and transmits it to the SAM control unit.
Function sequence for exit illumination
When a vehicle door is opened, the SAM control unit activates the exit illumination.
The status of the front doors (open or closed) is detected by the SAM control unit.
The SAM control unit evaluates all incoming information and sends the request to switch on the interior illumination to the overhead control panel control unit (OCP).
The overhead control panel (OCP) control unit actuates the following components directly:
left front reading lamp (N70e2)
Right front reading lamp (N70e3)
Depending on which vehicle doors were opened, the following components of the exit illumination are actuated:
Left exit lamp (E31)
Right exit lamp (E32)
The SAM control unit also actuates the following footwell illumination components directly:
Right front footwell lamp (E17/15) (with CODE LC7 (Lighting for front footwell))
Left front footwell lamp (E17/16) (with CODE LC7 (Lighting for front footwell))
Function sequence for interior illumination with ATA [EDW] alarm (anti-theft alarm system)
Only with code FY1 (Theft protection package)
Immediately after triggering an ATA [EDW] alarm, the SAM control unit activates the following interior illumination function:
Locator lighting
The locator lighting function is described in Section "Function sequence for locator lighting".
Detailed information on triggering an ATA [EDW] alarm is described in the separate "Function description for theft protection and locking" function description.
