If a vehicle is equipped with a power take-off, the FMR (A3) control module generally takes over the control.
Vehicles with a power take-off which can be locked out or have more than one power take-off require the parameterizable special module (PSM) (A22) to control the power take-off. The parameterizable special module (PSM) is connected to the other vehicle control modules within the integrated electronics system (IES) via the FCAN bus. This connection is made via the CAN star point. All participating control modules speak the same language, CAN language, so they understand the messages from other control modules.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The PSM control module forms an interface with the FCAN bus for control modules without their own FCAN bus connection but which want to communicate with the FCAN bus.
This means the PSM control module can read FCAN bus messages and translate them into other signals in order to then passes them on to designated outputs which are controlled by the body electronics. Conversely it cannot receive CAN busable signals from the body electronics, convert them into CAN busable signals and passes them on to another control module within the IES.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At the factory, the PSM control module (A22) is connected to the power supply and FCAN bus. It is only possible to activate the inputs and outputs actually connected. The PSM control module can be adapted to the body only after the body manufacturer has connected the body electronic circuitry and set the parameters.
It offers body manufacturers an interface for obtaining selected data available on the FCAN bus, which can be used for operation of the body.
The diagnostic compatible PSM control module (A22) evaluates malfunctions as they occur and stores them. It signals the current malfunctions to the instrument cluster via the FCAN bus for indication on the red display panel.
The HTT or a PC can be connected to the PSM control module (A22) via the diagnostic socket (X13), for data exchange, resetting displays and setting or changing settable parameters.
The inputs and outputs on the PSM control panel (A22) are associated with certain basic functions. These basic functions can be activated or deactivated by setting the parameters.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Basic functions of control module inputs:
Engine start: Initiates engine start.
Engine stop: Initiates engine shutoff.
Starter lockout: The engine cannot be started either externally or with the ignition key.
ADR enable: Enables a possible working speed control on the FMR (FR) control module.
ADR request: Requests the working speed control (ADR).
PTO 1 feedback: If PTO 1 is engaged, the indicator lamp in the switch and PTO display in the instrument cluster are actuated.
PTO 2 feedback: If PTO 2 is engaged, the indicator lamp in the switch and PTO display in the instrument cluster are actuated.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PTO 3 feedback: If PTO 2 is engaged, the indicator lamp in the switch and PTO display in the instrument cluster are actuated.
Engine brake lockout: When actuated, use of the engine brake is not possible.
Fixed speed 1, 2, 3: Sets the engine speed control to one of three fixed speeds. Prerequisite: ADR must be switched on.
If more than one fixed speed is selected, the lower is used.
Clutch remote control: Disengages the clutch.
Running board switch: Actuates a speed limitation and locks out reverse gear (only with GS gear control) or actuates a warning buzzer when reverse gear is engaged.
Manual throttle: A speed is set for the drive control (FMR). A linear speed reference is created between the manual throttle zero and maximum position whose initial value is the minimum manual throttle engine speed and whose maximum value is the maximum manual throttle engine speed. The values for the engine idle speed setting and current engine cutoff speed can be read out with the FCAN telegram from the drive control.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Backup lamp control: When actuated, the backup lamp is switched on.
PTO 1 request: Input receives power when PTO switch 1 is pulled requesting engagement of PTO 1.
PTO 2 request: Input receives power when PTO switch 2 is pulled requesting engagement of PTO 2.
PTO 3 request: Input receives power when PTO switch 3 is pulled requesting engagement of PTO 3.
Increase speed: Starts speed increase.
Reduce speed: Starts speed reduction.
Speed off: Switches off the engine speed set with N+or N–.
Switch off control panel: Software separation of control panel from PSM control module.
Retarder state: Provides information on the state of the retarder which is not compatible with the FCAN bus.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Basic functions of control module outputs:
PTO engaged: Output receives power when one of the PTOs is engaged.
Neutral position: Output receives power when the transmission is in the neutral position.
Idle: Output is under power when the accelerator pedal is not actuated.
Kickdown: Output is under power when the accelerator pedal sensor is in the kickdown position.
D+switched: Output is under power when the generator outputs the D+signal.
Retarder switch off: Output is under power to switch off retarder.
Basic functions of PPM/PWM outputs:
Engine speed signal: Outputs the engine speed as PPM signal.
Speed signal: Outputs the vehicle speed as PPM signal.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Engine torque setting signal: Outputs the accelerator pedal position (desired engine torque) as PWM signal.
Speed limitation 1, 2, 3: Actuation switches on a speed limitation to one of the three stored maximum speeds. If more than one maximum speed is selected, the lowest is used.
Engine speed limitation min. 1, 2, 3: Actuation switches on a speed limitation to one of the three stored limit speeds. If more than one limit speed is selected, the highest minimum speed is used.
Engine speed limitation max. 1, 2, 3: Actuation switches on a speed limitation to one of the three stored limit speeds. If more than one limit speed is selected, the lowest max. speed is used.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Engine torque limitation 1, 2, 3: Actuation switches on a torque limitation to one of the three stored maximum torques. If more than one maximum torque is selected, the lowest is used.
Gear lockout: Switches off the lockout for the gear shift (only on vehicles with gear control (GS)).
Accelerator pedal lockout: Locks out accelerator pedal.
Output splitter group (only on vehicles with gear control (GS)): When the PTO is engaged, the transmission is shifted to the desired splitter group.
