1 Guide
2 Spring
3 Pistons
4 Inlet check valve
Location
The inlet check valve (4) is bolted in the lower area of the retarder housing.
Task
The inlet check valve (4) opens or seals the oil duct between the oil sump and working chamber of the retarder.
Design
The inlet check valve (4) consists of the guide (1), spring (2) and piston (3).
Function
Once the retarder is switched on the pressure is applied to the retarder oil in the oil sump and thus also applied to the inlet check valve (4). The retarder oil presses the piston (3) of the inlet check valve (4) back against the force of the spring (2). The retarder oil now flows from the oil sump to the retarder working chamber via the open inlet check valve (4).
