Brake action
During the actuator rod action (18.1) or (18.2) moves the lever (19). The input forces are transferred by the eccentric bearing (20) to the bridge (17). The force is then distributed by the bridge (17) and the two threaded tubes (16) to the pressure pieces (13) and finally to the inner pad.
After overcoming the operation clearance between the pads and the disc, the reaction forces are transmitted to the outer pad (12). The closing force on the pad (12) and disc (46) generates the braking force to the wheel.
Brake relief
After releasing the air pressure, the return spring (27) displaces the bridge (17) and the lever (19) back to the initial position; this ensures that the brake pads operation clearance will be maintained.
Brake adjustment
The brake is equipped with a low wear automatic adjustment mechanism to ensure the constant operation clearance between the disc and the pads. The clearance adjuster (23) operates with each brake action cycle due to the mechanic connection with the lever (19). As the pads and discs get worn, the operation clearance increases. The adjuster (23) and the drag device (24) turn the threaded tubes (16) as necessary to compensate the wear.
The total operation clearance (clearance sum of both disc sides) will have to be between 0.6 and 1.1mm; smaller clearances may cause overheating problems.
