FunctionGeneral The oil pump in the automatic transmission is used for various tasks. It also transports oil for:
Coolant in the torque converter
Generation of compressive forces for multidisk brakes and the multiplate clutch
Working oil for gearshift
Lubricating oil for planetary gear sets The hydraulic pressure is set in the transmission control. The oil pump was developed for optimum efficiency in order to minimize CO2 output. Location The oil pump is installed at the bottom of the transmission bell housing behind the torque converter. The pump housing is part of the outer plate carrier of the multidisk brake. Function The primary pump is an oil pump according to the vane principle which is driven by a chain on the drive shaft.
