The manual drive clutch is operated by the driver via the clutch pedal. The actuation of the drive clutch is power-assisted. A cylindrical actuator is mounted to the housing of the manual drive clutch which uses a compressed-air servo.
The drive clutch features an integrated overload protection mechanism to prevent the manual drive clutch overloading, for example when starting to move off with a slipping clutch.
The engine runs at idle speed (max. 900 rpm) until the drive clutch is pressed all the way in.

This overload protection is active when the torque converter lockup clutch is open (torque converter clutch indicator lamp (4) comes on), the manual drive clutch is disengaged and a gear is engaged simultaneously. The overload protection does not function in all other situations.
