Suspension, general
In model 167, various suspension systems are available, such as the standard suspension with steel springs and the AIRMATIC Package (code 489 (AIRMATIC)), which are already familiar from other model series. The range of functions of the "Active Body Control (ABC)" system has been exclusively extended with the introduction of the new "E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL" system (code 490 (Electrohydraulic suspension)).
"E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL" suspension (with code 490 (Electrohydraulic suspension))
The new "ABC" with "e-Suspension" is a fully active suspension system which enables additional forces to be applied at each wheel independently, thus massively improving ride comfort over conventional passive spring/damper systems. Each wheel is supported by an air spring parallel with a controllable electrohydraulic damper, which is regulated via the associated damping valve unit by the active suspension and damping system control unit (N51/8). Active forces are produced at each wheel by a dual-action hydraulic damper (actuator) driven by the respective electrohydraulic controller unit. The damping is performed by integrated valves in the hydraulic circuit of the respective damping valve unit. The entire system is regulated by a control system via the active suspension and damping system control unit, which receives information about the driving situation from several sensors and systems, and calculates the corresponding engine speeds of the electrohydraulic controller units (pump units). Here an active suspension and damping system with sophisticated sensors combines with a modern air suspension. The suspension can evaluate the driving situation, speed and load. Damping and level control are automatically adapted accordingly for each wheel individually. For outstanding ride comfort and excellent stability both on-road and off-road; on dry, wet and slippery surfaces in equal measure. The most advanced function is the incorporation of the stereo multifunction camera (A40/13), which measures the road in front of the vehicle and enables the system to compensate preventively for obstacles (in combination with code P20 (Driving Assistance Plus Package) or code 23P (Driving Assistance Package)).

Four "DYNAMIC SELECT" drive programs: "Comfort", "Sport", "Curve" and "Off-Road". Depending on equipment installed, intensifying Plus options are additionally available; "Sport Plus" for certain engine variants and "Off-Road Plus" with code 430 (Off-Road Package).
For detailed descriptions of the drive programs, refer to the separate function "Explanation of vehicle functions, drive program".
