08.3 Survey of diagnostic trouble codes

	ACTROS, models 950 - 954 with transmission 715.5

When the system abbreviation ESP (GS) appears together with a diagnostic trouble code (A) on the red display in the instrument panel, a malfunction is present in the EPS (GS) system. If only EPS (GS) (C) is displayed on the red display without DTC and without priority 1 or 2, see DTC list 03.3 instrument (INS). If a number of DTC's are present only the DTC with the highest priority is displayed, whereby the priority (first digit in DTC) can increase from 1 to 2 for the solenoid valves. If the fault number displayed begins with the number 2 is not contained in the DTC list, find the corresponding DTC with the beginning digit 1.
Switch off the ignition after repairing or to check the cable connections via the short circuit DTC on vehicles with EPS (GS). DTC's which can be read out on the green display in the instrument panel (GI), are current only when proceeded by an "a". DTC's without an "a" are not current and should not be taken into consideration unless a complaint is made. The stored DTC's serve (together with the corresponding actual values) for simplification of diagnosis in the event of complaints without current DTC's.
Connect the HHT to the diagnostic socket for troubleshooting with "clear text display".

Prerequisites for testing

Voltage in electrical system 24 V (acid density 1.16)

Indicator lamp for auxiliary loads must go out (full supply pressure)

Note
DTC's can be erased only with the vehicle and engine standing still.

A) Fault display with ON-BOARD diagnosis

B) Fault display with OFF-BOARD diagnosis (with HHT connected)

C) Fault display with communication error on CAN leads to vehicle CAN bus
(see troubleshooting 03.3, instrument INS).
In this case the power supply may also be interrupted in the control module (internal fuse). Check power supply at X1 18/8 (c. 15), 18/7 (c. 30) and 18/9 (c. 31). If no malfunctions are found while troubleshooting (03.3 instrument INS) and the power supply on the control module is okay, replace EPS (GS) control module.
