Store airbag unit with deployment face up, do not subject to temperatures above 100 °C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply.

Switch off ignition, detach transmitter key from electronic ignition switch control unit

On vehicles with code (889) Keyless Go: Press Keyless Go start/stop button repeatedly until the ignition is switched off.

Remove the transmitter key from the vehicle and store at a location that is beyond the transmitter range (min. 2 m).

Release rear seat cushion and fold forwards

Unclip seat adapter (1)

Move sealing felt to side and pull seat adapter (1) forward at the screw clips (2).

Move seat adapter (1) out of retaining tab (3)

Press to the rear in the center.

Remove seat adapter (1)

Remove the cover for the left rear ETR squib (R12/6) or the right rear ETR squib (R12/7)

Release and disconnect electrical connector (4)

Unscrew bolt (5).

Remove buckle (6)

If the seat belt buckle (6) with belt tensioner is replaced, the defective unit must be disposed of properly:

Make emergency belt tensioner units unusable.
