Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100 °C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply.

Switch off ignition and remove transmitter key from EIS [EZS] control unit

Remove left or right paneling from B-pillar at bottom

Remove left or right side paneling in rear

Remove cover (2) from seat belt guide bracket (3)

 Installation: Ensure that cover (2) is seated correctly on seat belt guide bracket (3).

Remove bolt (4) from seat belt guide bracket (3)



Release and disconnect electrical connector (5) from driver emergency tensioning retractor squib or from front passenger emergency tensioning retractor squib

Remove bolt (6) from automatic belt retractor (1)



Route automatic belt retractor (1) out of catch (arrow) in B-pillar

 Installation: Hang automatic belt retractor (1) in support (7).
Ensure proper seating of automatic belt retractor (1) in catch (arrow) in B-pillar.

If the automatic belt retractor (1) is replaced, the defective automatic belt retractor (1) must be disposed of properly.
