Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100 °C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply.

Move front seat (1) forward and up

Set front seat backrest upright

Remove bolts (3)

 Installation: Replace the bolts (3).



Unclip belt end fitting cover (7)

Remove the screw (8) and remove belt end fitting



Position front seat (1) to rear

Move front seat backrest back slightly

Switch off the ignition and remove the transmitter key from the EIS control unit

 On vehicles with code (889) Keyless-Go, press the Keyless-Go start and stop button repeatedly until the ignition is switched off. Remove the transmitter key from the vehicle and store it at a location beyond its transmission range (at least 2 m).

Raise front seat (1) at front

Disconnect electrical connector (4)

Disconnect electrical connector (9)

On vehicles with code (873) Heater right and left front seats

Disconnect electrical connector (5) and electrical connector (6) from the driver-side front seat adjustment control unit with memory (N32/1) or passenger-side front seat adjustment control unit with memory (N32/2)

On vehicles with code (275) Memory package (driver seat, steering column, mirrors) or
with code (242) Electrically adjustable front passenger seat with memory

Release driver-side front seat adjustment control unit with memory (N32/1) or passenger-side front seat adjustment control unit with memory (N32/2) out of the retaining rails (10) and remove

On vehicles with code (275) Memory package (driver seat, steering column, mirrors) or
with code (242) Electrically adjustable front passenger seat with memory

Detach pneumatic line (11)

On vehicles with code (404) Left multicontour seat or
with code (405) Right multicontour seat or with code (433) Left dynamic seat, incl. multicontour seat or
with code (434) Right dynamic seat, incl. multicontour seat

Attach protective cover to rear bench seat and center console

Lift front seat (1) to the rear and out of the vehicle's rear door

 Aid of helper required.

Install in the reverse order

Normalize front seat (1) using STAR DIAGNOSIS

On vehicles with
code (433) Left dynamic seat, incl. multicontour seat or
with code (434) Right dynamic seat, incl. multicontour seat



Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory

Perform initial startup of weight sensors

After installing the front passenger seat on vehicles with code (494) USA version.
