Removing/installing

 Danger!

Risk of injury to skin and eyes from handling hot or glowing objects.

Wear safety gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary.

Remove interior flap above engine

Remove heat shield of exhaust system

For rear axle 745.997

Remove heat shield (8)

For rear axle 746.217

 Unscrew bolts (6) for this step.

4.1

Slacken bottom exhaust clamp (3)

For rear axle 745.997

4.2

Disconnect exhaust flange (9)

For rear axle 746.217

 Do this by unscrewing bolts (4) and counterholding the associated nuts. Make sure that no damage occurs to the exhaust ring between the halves of the exhaust flange (9).

 Installation: Check the condition of the exhaust ring and replace if necessary.

Remove exhaust ring (7)

Remove front muffler (1)

For rear axle 745.997

 Remove the front muffler (2) bracket from the silent blocks to do this.

For rear axle 746.217

 Do this by unscrewing bolts (5) and counterholding the associated nuts.

Install in reverse order
